(Visual Storytelling II) Multimedia Video Gear: From What Reporters Need To Shoot Video To What Professionals Need To Get The Job Done
This hands-on workshop is for reporters who are just getting into shooting video with their cell phone or point-and-shoot camera on a tight budget to professional multimedia photographers who shoot with Nikon and Canon digital/video cameras (Canon 5DMark II for video). We will break into smaller independent groups depending on your expertise and interests. Also personal Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Express for those who want separate training.
Attendees: Bring in your photo gear and laptop with a multimedia pieces or raw videos for hands-on discussion. Have pre-loaded Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Express or any editing software you use.

This hands-on workshop is a continuation of Visual Storytelling I for multimedia video photographers. Once you bought the gear, then how do you shoot with it. We will break into smaller independent groups depending on your interests and expertise to go over deeper into the “One-Man-Band” multimedia video photographers with topics on:
Shooting interviews – some new ideas
Shooting multimedia for small newspapers
Shooting multimedia documentaries
Careers in multimedia – new funding opportunities, marketing, getting assignments
Creating lighting for interviews
Story Telling assignments

This years AAJA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Nick Ut, photographer with the Associated Press in Los Angeles, will talk about his famous Pulitzer-Prize winning photo in Vietnam. He will talk about how the photo changed his life. Even these days, Nick gives talks around the world about his photo of the Napalm Girl. His iconic photo he says has helped end the war in Vietnam. His talk is how his photo has helped in world peace.
After Nick’s talk and slide show, we will announce the winner of the Dith Pran PhotoShootOut Results.

Join New York-based Photojournalist Corky Lee and Filmmaker/Director Curtis Chin (“Vincent Who?”) for an intimate talk about their documentation surrounding the 1982 Vincent Chin Case. Lee will be on hand to discuss his gallery of photographs that are housed at the Chinese American Community Center which documents the movement sparked by the case that brought Asian Americans together in protest. Concluding this event will be Chin’s 2009 documentary film “Vincent Who?” which questions 80 young Asian Americans about a landmark case that has become unnoticed among today’s generation.
